About Our Founder: Sean Bollettieri-Abdali
A Legacy of Excellence in Racquet Sports
Sean Bollettieri-Abdali, son of Tennis Hall of Famer Nick Bollettieri, is a pioneer in the tennis and pickleball world. With over 30 years of experience, Sean has led the transformation of The Tennis & Pickleball Club at Newport Beach into a world-class destination for racquet sports enthusiasts.
His passion for the sport led to the launch of the first private pickleball club in the world, further expanding the reach of pickleball alongside his deep-rooted love for tennis. Under Sean’s leadership, the club continues to host major tournaments, support charity initiatives, and foster a strong community.
Sean’s recent expansion into Coto de Caza and future development plans for a premier wellness retreat highlight his commitment to growing the sport and creating unparalleled club experiences.
THE CLUB'S STORIED HISTORY
From Hollywood's Elite to a Premier
Racquet Club
Originally founded as Irvine Coast Racquet Club, this 6-court facility was later annexed by the prestigious Balboa Bay Club, a favorite among Hollywood’s elite, including Lauren Bacall, Johnny Carson, and John Wayne.
In 1967, it was renamed The Balboa Bay Racquet Club, quickly gaining recognition as a premier venue for professional and amateur tournaments featuring Roy Emerson, Rod Laver, Billie Jean King, Jack Kramer, and Arthur Ashe.
Historic Moments & Transformations

President George H. W. Bush made a surprise visit and played doubles with club pros.

Hosted World Team Tennis, featuring Maria Sharapova, John McEnroe, and the Bryan Brothers.

Sean Bollettieri-Abdali took ownership and, within 72 hours, led a dramatic transformation of the club.

Extensive renovations included court resurfacing, LED lighting, a European red clay court, and a Clubhouse Grill.
